Building a new home from the ground up is a massive undertaking, and I was fully aware of that. However, I was not prepared for the problem that would arise down the line that literally made me feel like a shell of my former self. I accidentally made that post somewhere else on the site (linked below), but I’ll give you a brief summary here.
After construction was complete, I began feeling tired, sluggish, and my memory was hazy. I knew something was wrong because, after all, I had just made the biggest comeback of my life, beaten the odds, and come out on top. I should have been elated!
The problem was that I had mold in my new house, and it was having a profoundly negative effect on my mental wellbeing. Check out the full story in the link above!
Back when I was just 10 years old, I told myself I wanted to do something great. Ever since then I have pushed myself hard and fast to be the best at everything I set my mind to. Whether that was varsity sports, keeping active, and even competing in the local spelling bee, I was constantly striving for improvement.
When I got to my mid-twenties, I fell into a rut. I had a car accident that essentially ended up draining my bank account and my savings, leaving me broke. I had to move into a small apartment in a bad part of town, and work 60 hour weeks to pay the bills. This was honestly the lowest point in my entire life and I almost gave up hope that things would get better. I kept working at my job, using my free time to hunt for better opportunities online. I applied to 20 jobs a week, some even in different states until I eventually started getting interviews. This is when I knew things were going to turn around.
I got an interview as a site manager at a big construction company, and took the job. The pay bump allowed me to move into a nicer apartment, and even start putting some money away. Soon I was promoted and began overseeing larger commercial and residential projects for the company. Fast forward two years and I was running my own construction company out of Western New York. I began promoting the company on sites like Vinylsidingcontractorsusa.com and Homeadvisor, and soon had a few clients of my own and one or two long-term projects. These projects soon manifested into multiple clients, new locations, and me close to retirement.
Now I am building my own home in Amherst, and living how I imagined I would be when I was ten. The point of this post is to let you know that no matter how low you think you are, you just need to find the right opportunity and seize it. Most of all, do not give up on your dreams, and always work towards achieving your goals.
As one of my favorite quotes of all time reads: “If you are not working towards your dreams, someone else will hire you to work towards theirs”.
If you want to gear your life towards success, the best way to do it is to start from the minute you wake up, and go until the moment you go to sleep. The common issue for people however, is getting the energy and motivation needed in the morning to get yourself going. So, how do you get motivated in the morning? For many people, the answer lies in coffee or other types of energy drinks. Since I personally like coffee (or a certain coffee-ish drink hint hint), that is what I will be covering in this post. For some people, coffee is fine, but for me (and others) espresso is the drink of choice, as it packs more of a punch. There are pros and cons for both and to find out what is best for you, we will be comparing which is best!
Espresso – Tasty and Powerful
“True” Espresso has been popular across the world for years, and is certainly becoming more popular in the United States. For me, my first experience was in Europe when I had my first cup of European espresso. Having only ever drank coffee before, I was floored by the taste and high caffeine content that espresso brought to the picture. Upon returning to the U.S, I immediately threw out my old coffee machine and began searching for espresso machines. There was a lot more that goes into making espresso than regular coffee, and after substantial research I found a few sites that could help. Your Best Espresso Reviews was a great resource for me when it came to picking the espresso machine I ultimately wanted to buy, and offered great information (including the difference between semi automatic and super automatic machines) that helped my decision. If you go this route, you will need to figure out your budget, research some tips for buying espresso machines (found here) and weigh the cost vs use benefits.
More lovers of espresso!!
Coffee – Americas Standard
As you may have guessed from the above section, I prefer espresso over coffee, but what does coffee offer? For one, coffee is cheaper. It is also more readily available, can be made with much less effort, and much quicker. A cup of coffee can be ready to go in as little as a minute (if you have something like a Keurig) and this is a big plus for many people. However, if you really want that extra punch in the morning, espresso will definitely be the way you want to go in this authors opinion.
I’m not sure about you all reading, but for me finding gift ideas is incredibly difficult. It’s not that I don’t know what someone will like, but rather that I can’t decide what they would like the most. Apparently, your gift decisions say a lot about your relationship, so this post is just a way to help anyone else out there who may be struggling with something similar, or for those of you who just do not know what kinds of gifts to get in general.
About a week ago was my girlfriends birthday. We have been dating about 4 years, so I have had plenty of gift giving opportunities and have of course run through all the good ideas I’ve had in years previous. Because of that, I am constantly having to one up myself from the year before, getting bigger and better gifts that maintain the high standard of excellence that I try to live my life by. Last year for example, I got her a kitten. In hindsight, that was foolish because how do you do better than that?
Here is my solution:
Online Gift Idea Research
Like most people my age, I took to the internet to find ideas. The Gift Subreddit has a wealth of information, as well as an active discussion thread where you can bounce ideas off of other like minded individuals. I got my start there but was looking for something more refined. Then I stumbled upon EpicGifts.net, which narrows down gift ideas into lists that are sorted by personality. This was perfect for me because I just needed a general idea, and having everything grouped so nicely together (eg “Gift Ideas for a Sporty Girl”) helped point me in the right direction. However, I wanted to find a way to give less generic gifts, so the search continued!
The Ultimate Buying Decision
In the end, I had to sit back and think about what she would really want. Yes, she is into sports and athletics, so I could have just bought her a generic gift from the Amazon gift section, but I wanted to go deeper than that (I had to upstage a kitten remember?). I started looking into DIY gifts, and things I could put some work into that would show her how much I care. Enter the world of Etsy gifts and Pinterest lists. Now, I will be the first to admit that I am not crafty by any means, but I was able to find some awesome tutorials that showed me step by step how to make some really romantic gifts (and gave me ideas for the future!).
For all of you wondering, the tutorial I ended up going with is posted below:
Yes, I know it is for Valentines Day, but in my opinion, any day is a good day to show someone how much you love them!
Did She Like the Gift?
I actually haven’t even revealed what the gift was yet (the above was just the pre-gift)! Without anymore fluff, the real gift is posted below.
That’s right, she is sporty but she also loves to read, so I cut out a bit of her favorite book (I’ll get her a new one), put the engagement ring I got in it, then wrapped it and took her to the restaurant where we had our first date. She was a little surprised when she opened it and saw a book she already had, but when she saw the ring it was the happiest I have ever seen her.
Hey everyone Jaxon here, and I just wanted to write a quick welcome post to say thanks for checking out the blog! As you may have guessed from the title, this is all about winning. I do not mean that in the typical sense, but more broadly (winning at life in general). I will be covering everything about my day to day life, as well as some life hacks, tips, and other fun topics.
A bit about me then to kick things off. My name is Jaxon, and I was born in Wisconsin. From a very young age I was a big sports buff, dabbling in Soccer (my favorite sport) as well as baseball, basketball, tennis, and track. I have never been one for physical sports like Football, simply because they rely too much on strength and not necessarily skills on the field. The sports I play all require a huge amount of training, personal development, patience, and skill, which make them the perfect tools to instill a sense of self gratitude and a propensity for victory.
Once I got out of college, I became a life coach and was able to transfer my own knack for bringing out personal success to other peoples lives. The experience has been incredibly rewarding and I will likely touch on it a lot in this blog because I believe it can benefit everyone.
With all that being said, I will hopefully update this once or twice a month as my schedule permits, and I hope that anyone who ends up reading the blog will leave me some feedback. Below I will include one of many motivational videos I have found extremely useful throughout my life. Give it a listen and start changing your life today!
